Web/Mobile App Critique

The app that I will like to review is Tik Tok. Tik Tok has surpassed many social media platforms -Instagram, and Facebook. One of the main reasons is the ability to keep its audience entertained with a diverse amount of videos and posts. These posts include different niche  - food, fashion, makeup, homes and so on. The algorithm used on Tik Tok allows each of its users to find a video that interest them and makes them stay on the app for longer until its either almost sunrise or almost bedtime.

Tik Tok consist of short and medium length videos that you can like or save. The app itself allows you to express yourself by making your own videos singing, dancing, doing comedy and sharing it across the platform. It is easily used by all ages and as simple as swiping across or scrolling up or down. Buttons at the bottom of the screen has words to tell you what each does. The functionality is that the app makes you see videos that you, the viewer is interested in and actually want to see, making it specific to you. It is also great for people seeking to create a business and increase their followers.

Recommendations:

I would like Tik Tok to integrate more protocols for age restrictions. Parents will have to put in extra work to supervise their children on the app or even tell them to delete the app which can reduce the impact that Tik Tok was looking to have. Also, more adjustments are needed to be made to the app to find videos easily. Sometimes a video you watched, liked and forgot save becomes lost- even if you look up key words. More search options should be put in place to find what you have watched. For instance, Instagram and Facebook tracks your activity where you can access whatever you have watched or liked. Lastly, is allowing personal customization of user pages. I believe users should be able to customize their pages a bit more or given that opportunity to do so.
